How does the word counter count words?

A word is any group of letters or numbers separated by spaces or punctuation. Hyphenated words such as "well-known" count as one word, the same way most word processors count them.

Does the character count include spaces?

The tool shows both: characters with spaces and characters without spaces. Most social networks count spaces, so use the "with spaces" number for posts.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time assumes an average adult reading speed of 238 words per minute. Speaking time assumes 150 words per minute, a typical pace for presentations and videos.

Is my text saved or uploaded?

No. The counting happens entirely in your browser. Your text is never sent to a server.

What is the character limit for a post on X (Twitter)?

A standard post on X can be up to 280 characters. The tool shows a live check against this limit, along with Instagram captions (2,200 characters), meta titles (60) and meta descriptions (160).
